Building a Great Profile
By Beth Moore
While it is human nature to want to look a little better than you actually are, resist the urge when you are setting up your profile for an online dating site. A slight bend of the truth here and there presents a false picture of you, and will likely compromise your ability to make the best match possible as you search for a mate. Remember that you can put your best foot forward without having to lie.

Check your baggage, because by always sounding positive, you will make a great first impression. Even if you have been jilted a million times, you have to simply understand that any problem you have with what has happened in the past has nothing to do with the new people that you are trying to attract.

Constantly being negative is exhausting not just for your, but for the people around you as well. If you hate work, and you hate your family, and you hate your friends, and you pretty much hate your life, who in their right mind would want to be around you?

If every first date that you have ever been on was horrible find one good thing about each one and focus on that. The good thing can be that the experience is behind you. You can find something positive to say about virtually any situation if you look for it.

Stand Out from the Crowd

Have something memorable in your profile that makes you stand out in the crowd, and again make sure that it is true. A song or saying may be enough to stick in someone’s mind. A thought or philosophy may also do the trick. Just find something unique about yourself and work it into your online dating profile.

If you are describing what you like as romantic dinners or long walks along the beach, do you really think that anyone reading it is going to even try to remember you? Instead bring the comment into your own world and be very specific which will help your reader gain a little insight into your personality.

Try to present yourself in a positive and honest light. If your are easy going and flexible, make sure to include that. If not much bothers you, make sure that you add that. If you only have one rule in life - “have fun” - make sure that you include that. Make sure that you really describe yourself as you are and not as you wish you were. Have a friend read it over and see if they agree with your self-assessment. Sometimes it is helpful to see yourself through someone else’s eyes.

The more correct and specific that you are in describing yourself, the better your contacts will be when you make them. So put your best foot forward, and get out there and have some fun.
